Navigation system

Navigation system

The neuronavigation system is a neurochemical tool. It is used to guide the neurosurgical procedure by displaying the movement of surgical implements on pre-operation images. By enhancing the precision of gestures it makes it possible to sometimes very small or difficult lesions while reducing morbidity and increasing efficiency. However it involves a major pitfall.

The image used by the navigation system is obtained before surgery cannot be corrected at that time. Given the anatomic modifications inherent to the operation (modification of the volume of cerebrospinal fluid or tumor resection,…), a discordant progressively appears between surgical reality and the imagery. The precise information becomes outdated bit by bit and accuracy decreases. An interventional IRM constitutes the method used to update the neuronavigation by high definition images. It makes it possible to perform intra operating checks on the quality of the surgical gestures.
